Welcome to the 2007 WVBA International Player Journal Page

Here we will be publishing our player journals throughout the trip. Each player will be writing about their experience during their day. Below is the journal entry for the second day of the Minas Copa tournament in Belo Horizonte, from Jerrika Groeneweg...enjoy

Day 2 of the Minas Copa Internacional, by Jerrika Groeneweg
July 27, 2007

Our long day at Minas Tenis Clube started when Ky and I awoke to the voice of Ana Marcia, "Girls, itīs time to wake up." We crawled out of bed and got ready for the second day of the tournament.

Once again we enjoyed another tasty breakfast that was prepared by our housekeeper and off we went across the street to Minas. Our first match started at 9:30 against one of the two Minas teams. We fought hard but ended up falling short at the end of both games.

Our next match wasnīt until 5:00, therefore we didnīt have to arrive at the gym 'till 4:30. So we had a lot of time to kill. We all went our separate ways for lunch. Some bought food at the concession stand, or ate in the cafeteria, while others went home with their families for a homemade meal.

After lunch Ky, Rachel, Kendra, and I walked to the salon at Minas. We all got manicures and pedicures to pass the time. Although the language barrier served as a bit of an issue we had Clarissa there to help us figure everything out!

After our nails were done drying we all walked back down to the pool. We were a bit tired from our previous night at the futbol game so we took naps in the lawn chairs. After we woke up we gathered our gear and walked to the arena.

There we watched an intense match between Minas and a team from Rio. Finally after hours of waiting our match began at 5:45. We played an orange and black team called Positivo from Curitiba, of the state of Paraná. They were one of two clubs from that state in the south of Brazil and they shared a bus to get here to Belo Horizonte on Friday. The bus ride was 15 hours!

Sadly, we lost in two games. When the match ended Ky and I walked home to find the table set and dinner awaiting us. It was Brazilian hot dogs, with mini french fry chips, and diet coke to drink. yummm! For dessert we had cookies and cream ice cream!

When Ky and I were finally done stuffing our faces we traded some jerseys, took showers, and called it a day!
