2008 Classic less than Two Weeks Out

SEATTLE, WA -- May 12, 2008
This year's Classic will feature the same number of teams, the same number of courts and the same great atmosphere at the University of Washington.

18s Team Needed
We have just received notice of a U18 team that needs to drop out due to excessive injuries. We have exhausted our wait list in this age group. If there is any U18 team that is interested in playing in this year's Classic, please contact us right away at ecc@wvba.org.

We will once again host 192 teams in six divisions. 18 Open and 18 Club (32 teams each), 16 Open and 16 Club (40 teams each), and 14 Open and 14 Club (24 teams each). All Open Divisions will play in the AM wave (8am-2pm) and all Club Divisions will play in the PM wave (3pm-9pm).

The initial seeding for the 14s divisions and 16s divisions have been posted and we will continue to seed the 18s fields this week. The strongest teams will be placed into the Open Divisions. If you would like to move from open division to club or from club division to open, please contact us and we'll see if we can make it work.

General Facility Rules
We are grateful to the University of Washington Intercollegiate Activities and Intramural Activities departments for allowing our tournament to be held in their beautiful facilities. We will be using 24 courts in three buildings all within walking distance. We also will have court 25 devoted to promoting boys' volleyball with a tournament featuring local teams as well as teams from Canada.

No Food in Playing Areas
All of the facilities we use are in pristine condition and with your help, we will continue to be invited back for future years. There is absolutely no food allowed on any of the court surfaces in any of the facilities.

In one of the facilities, the Dempsey Indoor Practice facility, we do not allow any player bags inside the building. All camp areas for teams playing inside Dempsey will be provided at the concourse level of Hec Edmundson Pavilion.

We will have plenty of great food available at our barbecue so leave your lunch at home and support Doug's Rockin' Barbecue and Susan's Sweets. Please prepare your teams and parents for these facility rules.

No outside Chairs
All facilities have plenty of seating provided. We will not allow any outside chairs to be brought into any of the buildings. You are free to bring your own chair to use outside if you want to set up a break area outside, but no chairs will be allowed into any of the buildings.

No Overnight Parking
You are welcome to bring an RV onto the campus, but you must remove it every night. There is no overnight parking anywhere within the athletic parking areas.

This year the university will be charging for parking. In past years we have had free parking, but this year we are being told that we will be charged $5/car for parking in the main lots of E11 and E12. There is less expensive parking in the large north lots of E1.

If you are planning to drop off, you will need to drop off in front of the Graves Building, just north of Hec Ed Pavilion below the pedestrian bridge crossing Montlake Blvd. This is the closest that you can get to the playing site for dopping off. Click here to view a campus map showing parking areas E11 and E12 located to the south and southwest of the football stadium.

Team Check-in
   Coaches' Meeting

We will open team check-in on Friday evening, May 23rd, at 6:00pm. Teams will check in just inside the SW entrance to Hec Edmundson Pavilion at the University of Washington. The approximate address is 3850 Montlake Blvd. NE, Seattle, WA. We will have a coaches' meeting at 8:00pm in the same building. We will provide food and beverages so come early and take a look around the facilities, chit-chat with other coaches, and enjoy the refreshments. We will announce our special guest speaker next week. As always, we will raffle off some quality door prizes from our tournament sponsors, but you must be present to win.

We will provide you with rosters at check-in so you do not need to bring them other than to verify the rosters we have you sign are accurate. You must carry your medical release forms with you at all times for every player on your roster.

Late check-in
If you cannot make it to the coaches' meeting or to check your team in Friday evening, you must contact us to make alternative arrangements. If we do not hear from you, we will assume your team has dropped and replace your team with another team from the waiting list. If you would like to be placed on the waiting list and have not yet contacted us, please contact us for any of the above, at ecc@wvba.org.

Free Seminars
During the event on Saturday and Sunday we are pleased to offer a series of fantastic seminars for parents and players. We will cover topics including the dispelling of myths about the college recruiting process, financing your college education, among others. We will also provide a unique moderated panel discussion with current collegiate players and current collegiate coaches where your questions can be answered about all topics. Please take a look at the schedule and plan to attend these free seminar sessions. Print this schedule and hand out to any players and parents that you think might be interested in learning more about playing volleyball in college.

There are still a limited number of rooms available at our tournament hotels. To view all hotel options and the reduced special pricing for this tournament, go to the hotel page.
