WVBA Mizuno 16 Team checks out ASU volleyball locker room during tour by Coach Brad Saindon

WVBA Mizuno 16 had a great start this morning jumping out to an 11-3 lead against the #1 seed in the pool 951 Elite from Temcula, CA. Alas, that lead evaporated and the Academy 16s lost the first match in 2.

After dropping the 1st set of the second match to #2 seed Arrowhead Ravens from Glendale, AZ, the Academy sophomores showed their grit and pushed through to win set 2. They maintained pressure on the Ravens with outstanding serve-receive passing, impenetrable blocks and crushing kills from All America candidate OH Kylin Munoz. The 3-set win kept WVBA in the running to advance to the Gold Division bracket on Monday.

Their last match was played immediately against Santa Monica Beach Club and WVBA 16s started off strong and remained focused throughout the last match to finish up 2-1 for the day.

There still remained a possibility of a 3-way tie if #2 Arrowhead could defeate #1 951 Elite. We stayed to support the team from SoCal who were able to close out the match in 2 sets to avoid the 3-way tie. This finish places the Academy 16s into the top 6 of the Open Gold Division.

WVBA Mizuno 16 will play at 8:00am on Court 4 against the Arizona East Valley. The winner of that match will take on the overall #1 seed, Laguna Beach 16 Sy to advance to the semi-finals.

The bracket is a true double elimination with the finals scheduled for 1pm Monday.
